Reassuring (7–10)
- APGAR is descriptive, NOT a resuscitation trigger — start NLS on breathing/HR alone.
- Persistent APGAR <5 at 10 min + acidosis (pH <7.0) → consider therapeutic hypothermia.

Reassuring 7–10 · Moderately depressed 4–6 · Severely depressed 0–3
Common pitfalls
- APGAR does not guide resuscitation — use HR + respiratory effort.
- Colour is unreliable in dark skin — use central colour only.
