NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Diclofenac)

• Post-partum analgesia
• Dysmenorrhoea (non-pregnant)

Inhibits COX-1/2 → ↓ prostaglandins. Constricts fetal ductus arteriosus and reduces fetal renal output.

• Avoid <12/40 (miscarriage signal)
• Stop ≥30/40 (ductal closure, oligohydramnios)
• Safe postnatal incl. breastfeeding

400 mg TDS PRN

Diclofenac

50 mg TDS PO / 100 mg PR

• Absolute≥30/40 gestation
• AbsoluteActive GI bleed, severe renal failure

• Dyspepsia
• Renal impairment
• Bleeding
• Bronchospasm in aspirin-sensitive asthma

• • T3: ductus arteriosus closure, oligohydramnios, NEC risk in preterm.
• • Safe in breastfeeding (low transfer).

• 💡 Excellent postpartum analgesic — combine with paracetamol.
